Charlie don't

15 June 1991 - 23 December 2025

Charlie Don't (Charles Eddy) was the rare artist who could be a cool guy icon in the spotlight while never losing his warmth. He had genuine blue eyes that were always lit up by a new idea, a vintage find, or an interaction with you. And he found a way to connect whether you were a timid normie or a fellow creative freak. He seemed most himself in a vintage black leather jacket under the stage lights, or on the back patio with friends old and new, a cigarillo in hand. You felt a lived-in elegance that could only come from cultivating an authentic self, from never stifling the need to create, from constant curiosity, and from genuine caring for other people. He was not only tirelessly creative, but he could spark creativity in others through a simple conversation. He made many friends over the years as a musician, visual artist, and events organizer in his community. He was a longtime resident artist at the now lost National Hotel Artist Lofts in Galveston, Texas. He was a multi-instrumentalist in bands like El Lago and Raudiver, and is remembered for the community arts zine, Wake, and events such as music festival Third Eyeland Party and the film series Martini Theater at DTO.His personal life was also in the public eye, since he collaborated consistently with his love and creative partner of 17 years, Lauren Villarreal Eddy, also a musician and events organizer. They were married for 14 years, and Lauren and her family cared for Charlie faithfully until his death from the most aggressive form of Glioblastoma, a brain cancer with no known cure. The community came together to support Charlie with benefits and funds from the time of his hospitalization and treatments beginning on February 5, 2025, until his death on December 23, 2025.Charlie is survived by his widow Lauren Villarreal Eddy and her family, who were closer and more devoted than blood, showing steadfast care in his final days: parents Samuel and Alisa Villarreal, siblings Jacob and Natalie Villarreal, and Julia Villarreal Prence.Charlie is survived by biological parents David and Cynthia Eddy, and sister Stephanie Eddy Pierce.Charlie is also survived by a large creative family, including bandmates Jaron Hall, Cleyborn Miller, Justin Terrell, Carlos Sanchez, Sofie Milton, and Chris Couri, producers Steve Christensen and Austin Sepulvado, and collaborators Mel Stone, Ben Apolinar, Becky Major, Sierra Sakel, Dan Schmahl, McCullough Ferguson, Ryan Hollaway, and other beloved friends over the years.MUSIC
